4. Metallic Inert Gas (MIG) welding.
f) Power house.
2.3) Describe the layout plan of shipyard.
ANS: The planning of a new shipyard will involve design to be made on the follows:-
1. Size and type of ship to be built.
2. Material production per year to be achieved.
3. Machining process to be installing.
4. Unit size and weight to be fabricated and erected.
5. Amount of outfit and engine installation to be under taken.
6. Controlling service to be supplied &
7. Administration facilities required.
3.1) Define the methods of shipbuilding.
ANS: The shipbuilding is the process that various kinds of ship are built properly. By using which method, the all activities of shipbuilding is done that methods is called shipbuilding method.
3.2) Mention the classification of shipbuilding method.
ANS: The classification of shipbuilding method are as follows:-
1. Frame erection system &
2. Block assembly system
3.3) Describe the methods of shipbuilding.
ANS:
» Frame erection system:- This is an old practice adopted for wooden ship in many years ago and adopted for iron, steel ship of riveted construction in the 19th century. The process of frame erection system is as follows:-
1. Keel laying
2. Assembly
3. Completion of bottom shell plate.
4. Fitting of double bottom plating.
5. Assembly of inner bottom plating.
6. Completion of double bottom.
7. Fitting of side frame.
8. Completion of frame erection.
9. Assembly of side shell plating.
10. Fitting of deck beam, girder and pillar.
11. Fitting of deck plating &
12. Completion of cargo hole.
»Block assembly system: - The block assembly system is adopted by almost all shipyard today. Hull construction is divided many parts depending on the crane capacity of the shipyard and each block is fabricated independently. The blocks are position in the building berth and welded. The process of block assembly system is as follows:-
1. Assembly of double bottom block.
2. Completion of bottom construction.
3. Shell plating.
4. Completion of side shell block.
5. Deck plating.6.Completion deck blocks &7. Block joints.
4.1)Define mold loft.
ANS: The mold loft is that place in a shipyard where the first steps in the construction of a new ship take place. It is a large covered wooden or brick floor area suitable for laying off ship details at full size or scale.
4.2) Mention the principal tools and equipments for mold lofting.
ANS: The principal tools and equipments for mold lofting are given below:-
Book of offsets.
1.Lines plan drawing. 2Magnetic tape
3.Punched tape.4 Hammer.5 Plastic baton or baton splice.6 Carpenters pencil.7 Steel squire.8. Wire cutting nipples.9. Compass.
10.Wooden squire.11. Chalk. 12.Sliding bevel.13. Eraser & Straight edge. etc.
4.3) Describe the purpose of mold lofting.
ANS: The purpose of mold lofting are as follows:-
1. In mold loft operation the lines plan working drawing information is converted at full size or scale drawn on the mold loft floor.
2. The full scale lines fairing or smoothness of the ships lines checked.
3. Identify the ships shape for mold lofting.
4. Mold loft give the exact lines of the ship or every name for making template.
5. Mold loft give the manufacturing information for the various construction.
5.1)Define template.
ANS: The templates or patterns which are made in the mold loft after being lofted from the ships lines are made either of wood or heavy waxed paper.
5.2) Mention the principal tools and equipment for tem -plating.
ANS: The principal tools and equipment for tem-plating are as follows:-
1.Bending straps.2. Beveling handle for beveling bent frame.3 Hammers.4 Light wood.5.Heavy or waxed paper or others 6.materials. etc.
5.3) Describe the necessity of tem-plating in measurement.
ANS: The necessity of tem-plating in measurement are as follows:-
1.Template is used to proper construction of ship.2 By making template when the construction work is started then time and money is saved. The template must be inscribed with all information necessary to finish the jobs, such as- buttock frame, water lines, ship section, sheet number of section, number of plates and thickness .
